What is an Enrolled Agent?

An Enrolled Agent (EA)
is a Federally Authorized Tax Practitioner who has technical expertise in
the field of taxation and who is empowered by the United States Department
of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of
the Internal Revenue Service for audits, collections, and appeals.
Why do I need an Enrolled Agent
instead of just a person who prepares taxes ?

Unlike CPAs and
attorneys, who may or may not choose to specialize in taxes, ALL
Enrolled Agents specialize in taxation.

Enrolled Agents are subjected to a rigorous background check conducted by
the IRS

Enrolled Agents are
bound by Circular 230, which gives them limited client privilege in
situations where the taxpayer is being represented in cases involving audits
and collections matters.

Enrolled Agents are
required to complete 72 hours of continuing education to keep them abreast
of any and all tax law changes.

Enrolled Agents take
a difficult two-day examination administered by the IRS, which covers
taxation of individuals, corporations, partnerships, estates and trusts,
procedures and ethics.

Only Enrolled Agents
are required to demonstrate to the IRS their competence in matters of
taxation before they represent a taxpayer.

authorized to appear in place of the taxpayer at the Internal Revenue

- you will need to know your 2002 filing
status, SS#, total number of exemptions shown your your 2002 return
Do I have to have an appointment to have
my taxes prepared?
- An appointment is highly preferred as we
like to reserve time to meet with you to discuss your tax situation.
What information do I need to bring with
me to my appointment ?
- All W2's from all jobs worked during 2003
- 1099R's from pensions, IRAS, annuities
received for 2003, 1099s from investments, closing statements or purchase
statements from real estate sales during the year
- 1098 for mortgage interest paid
- If you are a prior client of Edone and
Graham your organizer that you received in the mail even if you have not had
a chance to fill it out.
- Any other documents required to accurately
report your income and deductions
